Dear Vicky the Viking,

What is a good hobby for the upcoming spring?

-Anonymous

Dear Anonymous,

I have a few hobbies you could try to pick up this spring. You can try cooking, crocheting, knitting, yoga, hiking, gardening, and if you’re on the more creative side then building legos. I know a couple of people that build massive lego sets for fun and one of them is a coach who does it on his lunch break! Think of things that make you, you. If you like sports then try yoga or a new workout routine. If that doesn’t spark your interest then try hikings it not only helps you with your stamina it helps you connect with nature, you will become more aware of your surroundings. Mrs. McGrady, our school’s Biology teacher, she loves hiking, ask her the best places to go hiking are, I know she would love to. If you're still struggling with finding a new hobby, write a new comment with some of your interests and I will do some digging for you.

Sincerely,

Dear Vicky the Viking,

I'm a nervous wreck. What should I do to calm my nerves?

Sincerely, Nervous Newt

Dear Nervous Newt,

First off, follow these steps; drop your shoulders, relax your body, close your eyes and change your focus completely away from the stressor, then breathe. Now, that should help you relax a little bit but, more ways to help with these feelings is to go get some fresh air, fuel you body by eating a snack, chew gum, listen to music, write it out, and you a stress ball or other fidget toy. I personally use a lot of these. You can try it and if you don’t find one that works for you, write again and tell me why not and I will try to help you find the right one for you.

Sincerely,

Dear Vicky the Viking,

I’m a freshman this year. How can I be more involved in school?

Sincerely,
Confused

Dear Confused,

The best way to be more involved in clubs! There are so many clubs this year and opportunities for everyone to find a group of people to talk and have fun with while doing things that they enjoy doing. Newspaper club is open to anyone who wants to join and so is FCA (name soon to be changed).

Just find a club that interests you, and if you don’t then try joining a sport. If sports aren’t your thing either then try to find and/or talk with a teacher and try to see if they would be willing to let you help start up a new club! The possibilities are endless! I really hope this helps, if not just write again and explain why or why not. So, I can help you more because that’s what I’m here for.

Sincerely,

Vicky the Viking

Dear Vicky the Viking,

I´m having trouble staying on task during my classes, is there any way you can help me?

Sincerely,

A Trouble Troll

Dear A Trouble Troll,

I will be completely honest, I am ADHD and ADD so, in other words I truly understand your struggle. Something that helps me is remove things that distract me, for example phones or other open tabs on my computer.

Sometimes even the people we sit with cause us to not want to work or focus. In order to stay on task you have to focus. To stay focused though, is tricky but not impossible. You eliminate distractions, find your learning strength. Do you learn better by hearing, seeing, or doing it?

If it is by hearing then you will more than likely have to focus on what your teacher is saying and just her, if someone disrupts ignore them. Listen to what they are saying. If it is ‘doing’ then you can take notes as the teacher is explaining and lecturing, this will give you the ability to remember it easier, you see, and hear it. I personally have to do this all the time because I struggle with just sitting there and not doing anything. I really hope this helps, if not just write again and explain why or why not. So, I can help you more because that’s what I’m here for.

Sincerely,

Vicky the Viking
