Almost all people remember February 14th as a day for love and the building of relationships, well these two rivals Al Capone and Bugs Moran remember it as a gang war between the two. In Chicago George “Bugs” Moran ran the North Side gang during the 1920s known for bootlegging. “Scarface” Al Capone wanted to control the smuggling and trafficking operations, Moran didn’t like this, thus them being rivals. According to history.com Throughout the 1920s, both survived several attempted murders from the other gang. After both had had enough of each other Capone ordered that Moran’s gang be terminated. On Fed. 14, an order of bootleg whisky was expected at Moran’s headquarters. Moran was late and saw policemen there, thinking his gunmen were being busted. He waited outside, not knowing assassins sent by Capone were killing his men. This day from then on was known as The Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre. This was proven as the last gang fight between them. After that Capone went to jail in 1931. Moran lost so many important men he couldn’t control his territory, and later in Leavenworth Federal Prison 1957 he died of lung cancer. https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/the-st-valentines-day-massacre
